Spain Abandon Training Session After Fans Boo and Abuse Gerard Pique

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique was loudly whistled at Spain training on Monday, a day after he said he was open to leaving the national team because of the political climate in Catalonia.
The 2010 World Cup winner was jeered by fans upon his entrance onto the training pitch on Monday, while others raised inflammatory banners directed at the defender.

Pique, 30, was among those who did vote in the referendum -- which has been deemed illegal by the Spanish government -- after he had promoted the people's right to self-determination earlier in the week via social media.
That had drawn criticism from some sections of the sports press in the country, and his continued presence with the Spanish national team has been called into question.

Pique has offered to retire from playing for Spain if anybody has a problem with his pro-Catalan stance, and it definitely appears to be an issue causing division.
According to AS, one Spain fan went along to today’s training session with a banner reading: ‘Pique, you’re sickening’.

The Spanish newspaper claims when the man was asked to put his banner away, he went into a tirade about Pique, saying he doesn’t deserve to be in the national squad and labeling him disgusting.

Apparently, the several hundred fans also watching the session applauded the man’s sentiments and chanted ‘OUT! OUT!’ whenever Pique was on the ball.
That prompted the players to simply stop after just 23 minutes, and head back to the changing rooms.
Arguably one of Spain’s greatest-ever defenders, Pique has won the World Cup and the European Championships with Spain – so what do you think of the treatment he is now receiving from Spain fans?
