Ac Milan name Gennaro Gattuso as replacement after firing Vicenzo Montella

In football, money is almost always synonymous with success. Manchester City could be a case study. But with AC Milan, it hasn't been that true this season.

AC Milan have sacked manager Vincenzo Montella and have replaced him with former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.
Montella’s position had come under increasing threat after a goalless draw with Torino on Sunday, and he has now been relieved of his duties by Milan.

“AC Milan announces the dismissal of Vincenzo Montella as Coach of the first team. The technical operation is entrusted to Gennaro Gattuso, who leaves his post as Primavera Coach and to whom we send the warmest wishes, read a message on the Rossoneri’s official Twitter account.

AC Milan have endured a disappointing start to the season despite heavy investment over £205m in the summer, winning just two of their last nine league games to find themselves seventh in the Serie A table and already 18 points adrift of leaders Napoli.

Replacing the former Italy striker is Gattuso, who had only returned over the summer to lead the Rossoneri’s Primavera team.

Montella took charge of Milan in the summer of 2016 after spells with Roma, Catania, Fiorentina, and Sampdoria and guided them back to Europe at the first time of asking.

Gattuso made 468 appearances for Milan during his playing career, helping the club to two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia and two Champions League crowns.
